ZOMBO.

Adong Sharon a Democratic party nominee for the woman member of parliament for Zombo district has said that some women financial challenges in zombo is due to Alur culture that doesn't allow them  own key properties like land.

Adong mentioned that she came across some of the revelations whilst  for campaigns  especially in rural areas of the district.

"The majority of women in zombo are incapacitated financially due to the culture that doesn't give them rights to owning properties such as land yet its the pivotal of agricultural growth. While traversing the district, I ask women questions , why don't you own plantations and why don't you have bragging rights over your family plantations or gardens ?
Their response is that they dont have land and their husbands has absolute control over their plantations and gardens" Adong's message  on her social media handle facebook reads in part.

Additionally, Adong stressed that since the back borne of ugandan economy is agriculture, its high time women are swallowed in the sector to a greater extent  such that their financial well being are up scaled.

"We can boost  our women by helping and encouraging them form women Agricultural associations to add on the few farmers under the umbrella of okoro coffee society. Since our culture prohibits our women from inheriting land, we should encourage them through sensitisation to form groups so as to be able to hire land that will help them cultivate and rear animals and birds( poultry).if this is done, women will be able to borrow loans from banks to help boost their sector" Adong noted

Adong Sharon the former paidha fm and urban television journalist is canvassing different parts of zombo in bid to get her manifesto through to the electorates. Sharon was endorsed by Democratic party as the  sole flag bearer for the women seat.
